Rice Cake Pounding Party Jan. 11, 2019
Yesterday, rice cake pounding party - a traditional New Year's tradition in Japan, was held at Piece Hostel Kyoto.
These rice cake pounding events are known as "mochitsuki" in Japanese.
Mochitsuki is performed by two people, where one person pounds the mochi with a wooden mallet (Kine) and the other person shifts the sticky rice and keeps it moisturized and keeps it from getting too sticky.
After pounding for 10-15 minutes, the sticky rice will turn soft like marshmallow.
The party will be held on 17th of January again from 9pm to 10pm. Don't miss it! Everyone is invited!
Eat mochi and get good luck!
