【STAFF'S RECOMMENDATION!】Koji Cafe
If you are familiar with Japanese food, you may knoe that "kōji"is very frequently used in sake, miso and also soy sauce. Due to its importance in fermenting sake, as well as for producing miso, soy sauce, and a whole range of traditional Japanese foods, in 2006, the Brewing Society of Japan designated kōji as a "national fungus".
Today our staffs visited Koji Café which is near Heian Jingu Shrine.
The café was originally a store sold handmade Miso with 300 years history. Nowadays, not only Miso, but also Amazake and Miso soup are provided in the café.
Amazake literally means "sweet sake," but when produced it's either low-alcohol or alcohol-free. The non-alcoholic variety is made by mixing plain steamed rice and water with kōji. It is packed full of nutritious ingredients said to promote brain function, boost energy and rehydrate your body. And it's also delicious. In Koji café, they provide plain amazake, mike latte flavored amazake, and cocoa amazake.
The Miso soup set menu with rice is the only lunch provided in the café. In addition to being delicious, Miso soup has many nutritional benefits.
I think it would be a great idea to include Koji café into your sightseeing itinerary of the Okazaki area. This place will make all who visit leave satisfied, and the taste and hospitality of this restaurant are both without peer.Name:糀屋カフェ Koji Café (website)Address:京都市東山区三条通神宮道西入ル西町147-1 大阪屋 三条神宮道店Access:Take subway from Kyoto station and get off at Higashiyama station. 2 mins. walk from Higashiyama station.Time:11:00~18:00
